May is National Bike Month and Thursday, May 10, is the Bay Area’s 18th Annual Bike to Work Day. Join thousands in celebrating bicycling as a fun healthy way to make your trips – to work, school, and for local errands.

High Country Kombucha will be involved with an event in California on May 20th called the Tour De Marin by giving out free tea samples at the Whole Foods in San Rafael from 10 AM to 1 PM. This tour is a 45-mile ride through scenic Marin and participants can then watch the final stage of the Tour of California in the afternoon. If you’re in the area, you should definitely try to participate.

National Bike to Work week is May 14 – 18 (wait a minute, that’s not a whole week!) and National “Visit Your Relatives Day” is also May 18th. Perhaps you could get on your bike and go visit a nearby relative.

Pedal produced power totally rocks!

We are signed up and ready to sell some tea at two Farmer’s Markets in Denver this summer. Sundays starting May 20th we will have a booth at South Pearl Street Farmers’ Market, which is located on a very charming historic street that is lined with unique boutiques and restaurants. With more than 60 vendors and live music weekly, this is one market that no one should miss.

On Saturdays starting June 2nd, High Country Kombucha will have a booth at the Highlands Farmer’s Market which is located on the 1500 block of Boulder St. This is a slightly smaller market but the location can’t be beat. Come to the market for some produce and fabulous kombucha tea then try out one of the great restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood.

Both markets run from 9 Am to 1 PM and we will have Kombucha tea on tap available for filling your reusable growlers. We prefer to fill the growlers that sport our High Country kombucha logo but we will fill any growlers brought to the market by customers, even ones from your local brewery. Be sure to clean those growlers before you bring them by to be filled, it’s important to keep your scene clean with all things food related. High Country Kombucha will be available in bottles and by the case and we will offer discounted pricing because you will be buying directly from us, the manufacturer. Come get a refillable growler at the market and see a reduction of your glass recycling immediately.

We’re looking forward to these Farmer’s Markets and hope to see you there!

With 4/20 falling on Friday and Earth Day on Sunday, we thought it was the perfect time to create a post about all things Green!

At High Country Kombucha we always try to be as green as possible. We have recycling at both the office and the factory and have started selling our probiotic filled fermented tea in refillable 64 oz containers called growlers. Here’s another post about one employee’s attempts to reduce her High Country Kombucha bottle recycling

We aren’t so rich that we can afford hybrid cars …… yet, but we do try to drive gas efficient vehicles and a few of them are even green.

When the weather turns nice, many of the employees enjoy gardening. It’s too early in the Colorado Rockies to show pictures of the vegetable gardens but below are some photos of one employee’s bulb garden, inspired by a trip to Tulip country, the Netherlands. Read a post about her trip here European Vacation Post

Spring has sprung! Biking is a very popular activity during spring and summer in the Colorado Rockies and we try to do as much of it as possible to cut down on our vehicle emissions and driving in general. Pedal produced power rocks!

Don’t forget to check out www.earthday.org/2012 for some great ideas on how to shrink your carbon footprint. You can also pledge an Act of Green on their site and help them reach their goal of A Billion Acts of Green® I personally like the suggestion of making my Mondays meatless for the remainder of 2012, what a great way to be more green. When you see the figures of the resources required to put a pound of meat in the grocery store cooler, its clear why so many people choose to be vegan or vegetarian. Yikes!

By the way, our High Country Kombucha tea is totally vegan! Enjoy!

Every ski season in Vail, Colorado ends with a weekend full of free live concerts, pond-skimming and other fun events. While High Country Kombucha was not a sponsor, some of us did attend the two free concerts held last night. The first concert was Funkiphino which was a blast and the weather was good but unfortunately, we did not take any pictures. The second concert was Grace Potter & the Nocturnals and the weather turned to snow. I promised to post pictures the next time it snowed and I got some really good ones last night. Here’s a picture of the snow as it first started falling, very lightly.

The snow was actually very pretty to view as it was reflected in the stage lighting;

Then it really started dumping but locals expect some of this in April so we were prepared with warm gloves, hats and long johns.

Of course, the snow wasn’t intense for long and the music was amazing! Grace Potter is high energy with an awesome voice – we stayed until the very end.

This morning the lucky people in Vail awoke to a powder day. Be careful, the mountain was getting pretty sketchy before this snowfall!

If you’re not familiar with High Country Kombucha Tea, please take a moment to view some of the other pages or posts on our website. Our product is 100% brewed and bottled right here in Eagle County and is really good for you. This tea is full of probiotics and will help you curb your craving for fizzy sodas and sugary juice and sports drinks. Check out our calendar of events and visit one of our demos for a free sample.

http://www.hckombu.com/wp/index.php/events-calendar/

If you attended the concert, leave a comment and let us know what you thought of the snow, the music, or the event. We’d love to hear from you.

Dan Katra is a big fan of our tea and we are even bigger fans of his artwork. He graciously agreed to produce a High Country inspired poster for us and we could not be more thrilled with the result. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.

Of course, to get the full effect of this beautiful piece of artwork you should really view it out in a public setting. Below is a picture of the Belmar Whole Foods coffee bar in Denver next to our High Country Kombucha on tap menu.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful way to get the word out about our tasty probiotic-filled fermented tea. If anyone is interested in getting one of these posters, come see us at the Farmers Markets this summer and ask for them specifically. We will share the posters and a smaller sticker version with fans and customers while supplies last.

We will be posting our Farmers Market schedule right here on our “News” page, sometime in early May. Check back often and we’ll look forward to seeing you soon.

Thank you, Dan.

OK, here’s my story. My husband and I are High Country Kombucha addicts! We love the stuff and go through at least a case (12 bottles) of tea each week. I photographed the last three weeks of High Country recycling on Friday and had three cases exactly.

We go to Denver often and decided to invest in a High Country Kombucha Growler at the Capital Hill Whole Foods Market. Growlers hold 64 ounces (equal to 4 bottles) and are refillable. Capital Hill Whole Foods filled it with our Wild Root flavor to get us started. Yummy!

We won’t be able to stop buying bottles entirely because my husband and I have different favorite flavors but we will hopefully cut down on our recycling by quite a bit. For those who would like to do the same, our tea is available on tap at several Whole Foods stores in Denver and Boulder as well as the Alfalfa’s market in Boulder and the Trolley Square Whole Foods in Salt Lake City, UT. Our growlers with the High Country logo are available almost everywhere our tea is sold on tap. We also plan to offer growlers at the few Farmers Markets we are attending this summer. There will be a post that lists all of the Farmer’s Markets you can find us working this summer, once our schedule has been confirmed.

Javier, our culture room manager photographed above, filled my new growler with kombucha tea. We hope to have a local restaurant or bar offer our tea on tap soon in Eagle County, Colorado but until then, it’s good to have connections.

One of our company founders, Steve Dickman, attended the American Ski Classic this weekend with his girlfriend, Lara. It was a great event that was held in Vail, Colorado with tons of professional skiers and celebrities.

Steve is a fan of the show “Breaking Bad” and ran into a familiar face at the event. Actor, Giancarlo Esposito who plays “Gus Fring” on Breaking Bad, was in attendance for the Ski classic and was nice enough to pose for a photo with both Steve & Lara. Everyone at the High Country Kombucha offices are completely star-struck and hope that this chance encounter will inspire Mr. Esposito to give our tasty, probiotic-filled beverage a try.

It appears that even in the News media world, when it rains it pours. This 5 minute interview was aired on our local TV 8 station back on 3/5/12. They said they would give us 4 minutes but we must have impressed them enough that they allowed us to run long. We can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to showcase our products on their morning show, Good Morning Vail. Tricia Swenson did an excellent job of interviewing and we hope TV 8 chooses to feature us again sometime in the future. Take 5 minutes out of your busy day to view this video and let us know what you think.
